Under the direction of the Director, Delivery Services & Data Governance, the Data Governance Analyst will join a team responsible for business execution and delivery of solutions to our operating teams. This role will be responsible for implementing an Information Governance roadmap and operating the practice, ensuring the organization’s data is accurate, reliable, and secure.
This role will introduce you to the tax preparation business, where you will join our teams that are delivering on the many opportunities present to optimize and transform our services. You will partner with stakeholders across our business units to establish processes to ensure the effective management of data assets. Your passion for information management will lead you to identify opportunities for improvements, implement solutions that deliver positive change, and strengthen the organization’s data management maturity.
This position is based in Calgary and offers a hybrid work schedule, with 3 days per week in-office.
Main Responsibilities:
Develops and implements the data governance framework, including policies, standards, and procedures to ensure data integrity and security, ensuring alignment with our overall corporate data strategy.
Operates data governance processes around access standardization, data store inventory, data flows and mapping, data classification, data quality, and retention.
Establishes and maintains information governance documentation, including the data dictionary and data catalog.
Provides subject matter expertise on information governance principles, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
Develops and delivers training programs on information governance, data quality, and data management practices.
Works closely with information owners, stewards, and business units to ensure adherence to information governance policies and standards.
Collaborates with IT teams and the global Information Governance team to evaluate, select, and implement data management tools such as MDM, data quality, data catalog, and data lineage solutions.
Conducts data quality assessments and implements remediation measures to improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
Collaborates with the Security team and Privacy Officer to ensure compliance with information security and privacy regulations.
Supports the development and execution of a plan to maximize self-service analytics capabilities including reporting (e.g., Power BI).
Stays informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and regulatory changes related to information governance.
Contributes to the development and implementation of the enterprise data strategy.
Manages and reports on a centralized scorecard of all audits and active findings. This includes ongoing audits with upcoming compliance deadlines and past audits with recommended remediation activities.
Coordinates with other IT and business leads on activities to fulfill audit requirements and remediate deficiencies.
Tracks and reports on the cost of audit activities.
Provides operational and project support (planned and ad-hoc) to business partners.
Key Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Management, or a related field.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in information/data governance roles.
Strong knowledge of data governance principles, frameworks, and best practices.
Familiarity with Canadian and other relevant data privacy and security regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and their implications for information governance.
Experience with data management tools such as MDM, data quality, data catalog, and data lineage solutions.
Experience with Data Governance tools (e.g., Purview, Alation, etc.).
Fluency in both English and French is an advantage.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify information governance issues and propose effective solutions.
Certificate in data management or information/data governance is an advantage.
Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
Skilled in process modeling and experience with data modelling, enterprise relationship diagrams and solution architectural diagrams.
Experience and knowledge of relational database structures and possess the ability to trace data flow.
Experience creating formal documentation and diagrams which capture current state and recommended future state of business processes and systems.
Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
