The Conflict Management Office (CMO) is part of the Ministry of the Solicitor General's commitment to help create an organizational culture that fosters and sustains an inclusive and civil work environment.

The CMO aims to help create high-performing workplaces that are respectful, healthy, and inclusive. We focus on building skills that resolve conflict early and with minimal escalation. The CMO provides support for staff and managers responding to workplace conflict and incivility through a range of services, including coaching, training, facilitation, and workplace restoration.

As a Conflict Management Practitioner, you will provide critical conflict resolution services that assist SOLEGN staff in effectively responding to and resolving workplace conflicts, including those involving interpersonal conflict, harassment, or discrimination. On any given day, you will provide confidential conflict resolution advisory services, including coaching, mediations, and alternate dispute resolution between parties through the provision of empathetic and trauma-informed service that promotes human rights and equity.
What can I expect to do in this role?
In this role, you will:

• Provide consulting support to management and HR partners on complaints/concerns of workplace conflict including harassment and discrimination
• Design and deliver services, initiatives and interventions including conflict coaching, mediation and restoration to resolve workplace conflict issues
• Manage relationships with vendors who provide mediation, alternative dispute resolution (ADR) or workplace restoration services
• Prepare a variety of confidential communications on highly complex and sensitive cases
• Assist management in the development, delivery and coordination of educational training and awareness programs

How do I qualify?
Conflict Management, Mediation, and HR Knowledge:
• You have knowledge and experience with conflict management theories and practices including conflict resolution, change management, and workplace restoration.
• You have knowledge and experience with mediation and negotiation to provide advice and manage issues.
• You have knowledge of human resources theories, principles, techniques and the application of collective agreements.
• You have experience interpreting and applying legislation related to human rights, such as the Ontario Human Rights Code, the Respectful Workplace Policy, the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, the Crown Employees Collective Bargaining Act, the Ontario Labor Relations Act, the Occupation Health and Safety Act and policies and procedures related to human rights.

Communication, Interpersonal, and Relationship Management Skills:
• You have demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential issues and develop and present reports and recommendations.
• You have cultural competency working with diverse and racialized individuals and demonstrated skills in trauma-informed approaches to conflict resolution.
• You have political acuity to recognize and take into account sensitive political situations.
• You have relationship management skills to develop and maintain effective partnerships and communication lines with various levels of management as well as unions.

Research and Analytical Skills:
• You have demonstrated research skills to review and analyze various conflict management issues, trends, problems, systemic issues and policy/process concerns
• You have conceptual and analytical skills to asses complex problems, identify systemic trends, and recommend solutions.
• You can analyze conflict situations objectively, identifying underlying issues, interests, and dynamics.
• You can gather and analyze data from multiple sources, including interviews, surveys, and organizational records, to inform decision-making and intervention strategies.

Human Rights Knowledge:
• You have knowledge of best practices for applying alternate dispute resolution strategies to address harassment and discrimination based conflict.
• You have knowledge of human rights and Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) theory and practice including awareness of racism, sexism, ableism, unconscious bias, and intersectional and systemic discrimination.
