The Chief Control Office is a 2nd line of defense assurance team reporting into Finance designed to add value and improve RBC’s financial control environment and reporting process. It provides SME advice, enabling RBC to achieve its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of risk management, control, and governance processes around across the Bank which impacts the financial statements. The incumbent will manage/support transformation activities for CFO Group.
The Senior Director, CCO Control Transformation will lead the transformation of the CFO Group as subject matter experts as it pertains to sound financial stewardship and excellence in controls and governance; as well as lead analysis to identify opportunities to strengthen RBC’s broader financial control environment.
What you will do?
As part of the CFO Group’s Transformation, the incumbent will lead key Financial Control transformation initiatives with a focus on:
Delivering a fit for purpose control structure by streamlining RBC’s control structure through the creation of an enterprise approach for development of controls, standardized process documentation and common tools. The found capacity across the organization will be repurposed to deliver against the increased regulatory expectations.
Building and implementing a financial control framework for data that leverages the CDO’s enterprise framework, tailored to address financial reporting risk (including SOX)
Building and implementing an ESG control framework necessary to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Focus will be to leverage and tailor SOX control framework to meet ESG requirements.
Assessing current operating environment within CFO Group, in partnership with the CFO Transformation Office, to determine additional areas of opportunity (e.g. right size control structure, automate manual activities)
Build education programs with the focus on risk and controls to upskill the organization (risk and control champions, mix of online and in hands on training).
Provide subject matter expertise to support SICM in delivery of the CFO Group transformation as it pertains to controls and governance.
Identify and lead data analytics and deep dive analysis on issues and root causes to identify opportunities to strengthen RBC’s broader financial control environment.
Draw insights from data analysis and understanding of control issues identified across functional programs (ie. SOX, op risk, reg compliance, IA) through review of quarterly assessments, deep dive analysis, data analytics and KPIs.
Identify actions based on emerging trends and root cause analysis for CFO Group and the broader control environment.
Identify improvements and actions for CFO Group through discussions at ECC and other forums.
Lead, motivate and inspire a diverse team of subject matter experts (both indirect and direct reports)
What you need to succeed?
Must Have
CPA/CA and graduate degree in business or related discipline
10+ years Financial Services related experience
Proven experience successfully leading a team of SMEs in large scale transformation
Deep understanding of operational risk, governance, and the control environment
Strong knowledge on and broad experience in financial products, risk management, with specialization in banking and business processes, internal controls, and industry best practices and regulatory requirements
Prove track record as valued advisor and control mindset
Strong communication skills
Proven impact and influence skills with senior leaders
Deep knowledge of key financial metrics, operational risk, the control environment, and regulatory policies
Organizational awareness, impact, and influence at senior levels
Strategic business acumen
Proven project & business execution skills
