ArcelorMittal Mining Canada is currently seeking an Environmental Advisor. The position holder will have several responsibilities at the level of environmental management and monitoring, prevention and response to accidental spills, compliance with regulatory requirements and at the administration level.
Main responsibilities
Participates in authorization requests from the MELCC and other ministries (ie: RBQ, MFFP);
Preparation of budgets;
Management of environmental contracts (calls for tenders, study of submissions, choice of supplier and supplier monitoring);
Drafting of environmental assessments and reports.
Ensure compliance with laws and regulations and commitments made when issuing authorizations (close management with operations);
Collaborate with the MELCC and Environment Canada on action plans for various environmental projects;
Participate in the review of restoration plans, environmental and social impact studies (ESIA) and monitoring of environmental issues on the site (ie: monitoring of air quality and other studies);
Ensure the updating of risk registers in collaboration with operations.
Develop and implement environmental monitoring programs (sampling, inspection, treatment of contaminated soil, MDR);
Carry out sampling campaigns;
Compile and interpret the results;
Write up and transmit the results to the authorities;
Collaborate in the design and implementation of the EMS (ISO 14001 model);
Develop, in collaboration with the sectors, technical procedures;
Keep procedures up to date and ensure follow-up;
Ensure effective management of the documentation under his responsibility;
Initiate, propose and participate in the implementation of effective environmental practices which present the best gains taking into account the costs involved;
Review spill response plans;
Coordinate and/or provide training to employees;
In the event of an environmental emergency, coordinate the involvement of stakeholders (AMIC, ministries, subcontractor) as planned in the emergency plans.
Requirements
Engineer, chemist or biologist with environmental certificate or any combination of equivalent training and experience;
Additional training in the field of management, administration or environment is desirable;
Experience of more than 3 years in the field of environmental file management;
Good knowledge of spoken and written English;
Good knowledge of environmental laws and regulations, mining and metallurgical processes as well as emissions control technologies (water, air, soil);
Good knowledge of best practices in environmental management;
Good knowledge of environmental management systems (ISO 14001);
Good knowledge of IT tools including the office series, SAP and document management;
Ease of establishing interpersonal relationships and speaking in public;
Have a good customer approach focused on understanding needs;
Behavior focused on health and safety, having leadership, good communication skills and being results-oriented.
